After breakfast we all piled into the cars and headed down
to the cliffs for a nice cliff walk. Most people decided that it was a good
idea to start the burning off process of Christmas lunch on Boxing Day. Tony led
the way up and over the cliffs. We came across some old battlement from the Napoleonic
wars and the first and second world war. They were quite interesting to walk
around and be part off. They had a few disused cannons that they fired at ships
in the past. Further along we came across Tony’s mother’s house and the beach
he used to take the family too with their boat. Tony was saying that the tide
in Guernsey can be up to 10m in the high spring tides. So were we were standing
overlooking the bay, rocks and beach the water would come up to there about
twice a year.
At the bottom in the bay on the beach we parted company with
the diehard walkers. Tony called for the taxi service of Helen to come and pick
up Greg, Me, Kyle, Noriko and Michael. We had had enough and wanted to eat some
lunch and chill out for the afternoon. There wasn’t enough room for us all so Greg
went in to boot and had fun rolling round. On the way back Helen took us on the
scenic room. She took us round to where the others were going to walk and
further. Once we got back Helen had pulled everything out from Christmas lunch and
more for lunch. I was hungry so I didn’t wait for the others. If I had waited there
would have been nothing left.
For the rest of the afternoon Kyle and I packed our bags and
played games. We were due to leave on a 6pm flight so we left the house at
about 5pm. It was sad to go and start the back packing journey but we will be
back.
The flight was uneventful except it left 10min early. Who ever
heard of transport leaving early? Only in Guernsey. Once back to Gatwick we
made our way to London. Once at London we discovered that the underground was
having a strike. So we couldn’t get back to Trish and Michaels easily. The strike
also meant that for some reason the machines for tickets were not working. So we
couldn’t top up our Oyster cards to get on the bus. You can buy bus tickets but
they only take coin and we both didn’t have enough coin to buy the tickets. We spent
the next little while trying to find someone who would swap some notes for
coin. Once we found coin we had to find the bus. Luckily I looked up which bus
to take before leaving Guernsey so we just had to find the bus. We found the
bus and jumped on. We managed to get seats up the top at the front of a red
double decker. We both hadn’t done the bus service before so it was fun to be
on the bus. The bus took about 30min to get us to Trish and Michael’s. Once there
we dumped our stuff and just chilled out for the rest of the night. We were
both tired after the travelling.
