Today we are leaving London for a lovely channel island of
Guernsey. I have relatives that live out there so we are off to visit them and
have the closest to a family Christmas on this side of the world.
So it was up and out of the hostel at 6am for the first tube
train to Victoria. Our flight was at 8.45am from Gatwick, so it was going to be
touch and go to make it threw check in, security and be at the boarding gate
before it closes. From Victoria it was just a matter of getting on a train to
Gatwick Airport Train station.
We made it through security to then find out that our flight
was closing. So off we ran to try and make it there before they closed the
gates. I forgot how big airports can be so we ran for about 10min before we got
to the gate. Once at the gate we found that the plane hadn’t started boarding
and we had to take a seat. We sat for about 15min before they started boarding.
If I knew that I would not have run and saved my energy for later.
Once on the plane it was an easy 50min flight. I fell asleep
just about when I sat in my seat. Kyle was fascinated with the plane. He had
never been on a plane that was that small and was powered by 2 propellers. The
plane probably sat about 30+ people but our flight had only about 15 people on
it.
Once at Guernsey we had to wait to be unloaded. The airport
had quite a few sickies so they didn’t quite have enough ground crew to unload
us as we arrived. After the wait we unloaded and Tony picked us up and drove us
back to his place.
At their place we were informed that a nearby island of Herm
was doing free ferries to promote their gift shop and pub. It looked like a
good idea. So we made some sandwiches and headed off for the boat.
The boat ride was only 20min so we were there in no time.
Once we got there we went looking for the gift shops to see if we could get
post cards to send home. We thought it would be funny to get a post card from
Herm Island.
After finding the post cards we decided to explore the
island. Luckily it wasn’t raining just cold and windy, so after a while walking
we warmed up. We managed to do half the island and made it back to the pub so
we decided it was time for a drink. Just as we walked in the pub the heavens
opened and it was a thunder and lightning storm. It was great timing on our
part. We stayed for about an hour. Just as we were leaving the pub it stopped
raining so we went off and walked the other half of the island.
We both had enough about 30min before the last boat so we
headed back to the pub to get warm and wait till it was time to head off to the
dock.
The boat back was a bit rockier then going to the island.
Tony was standing there wait for the boat and for us to disembark to take us
back home. Once back at their house we had a shower to warm up and change into
clean clothes to head out for dinner. We went off to Helen and Tony son’s place
for a very nice dinner then bed.
